Passport is committed to a student leadership model and believes in the power of students seeing and interacting with Christian role models who are close to their own age. For 25 years, we’ve seen how encounters with a relatable Christian role model changes lives, provides encouragement, and models an active faith life. Each fall we set out to find a diverse range of college and seminary students from across the country, whose commitment to Jesus Christ authentically leads them to invest in a summer of ministry with young people.

Who are these wonderful staffers and why do they think that you should join them in ministry this summer?

Meet Wyahee Tucrkile, a Bible Study Leader on the 2016 PASSPORTmissions team from Domingo Hills, California who is majoring in Sociology at California State University. Having no previous knowledge of PASSPORT, Wyahee applied blindly online out of the desire to spend her summer serving others, and ended up flying across the country to become a part of the PASSPORT family.

What is PASSPORT to you?
PASSPORT is heaven on Earth. When you come to camp, you leave everything else behind you and serve wholeheartedly. It is exactly what life should be like.Working a Christian Summer Camp

What was your favorite memory from the summer?
My favorite memory from working this past summer was mission site time. I was able to see my campers in a whole new light. They were confident and bold. Hearing their testimonies at the end of each week reminded me why I applied in the first place.

My time as a PASSPORT staffer taught me…
That even when you think you’re not doing enough, you are. People respond to the love and grace you show them through even the smallest of interactions.

What makes PASSPORT different?
At PASSPORTmissions, you constantly get to put your faith into action at your mission site. You realize the love of Christ really can change a community.

I experienced Jesus this summer by…
Each week we had a chance to focus on loving others. As we dug into Scripture and I challenged my campers, it also challenged me to love better, especially when I left camp.

Why do you think giving campers leadership opportunities is important?
Many middle school and high school students don’t understand the power they hold. They aren’t too young to really make strides back in their communities. As cliche as it sounds, they are our future politicians, teachers, and pastors.

What would you tell someone considering working for PASSPORT?
There is no place like PASSPORT. You will learn to serve better, love better, and truly engage people in a way you never have before.
