Happy Valentine’s Day from the PASSPORT team! In the spirit of love & appreciation, we want to honor the often unsung heroes of the church – student workers. Yes, you. You are the always-present, never-complaining full-of-energy life-force of a church. So from all of us who have been forever changed by children’s ministers, youth pastors and all titles in between, here’s eight of the many reasons why we love you.
1. You work nights and weekends.
Thanks for cheering us on at our games if we are playing on the field or in the band. Sometimes you coach our intramural teams too, which also means you’re away from home a lot of week nights and weekends. We notice. Thanks.
2. You eat like us…lots of tacos!
Over the years, you have eaten your fair share of teenage food: pizza, spaghetti, hot dogs, chicken fingers, and cheese dip. Many groups have come and gone and all the while you’re constantly eating with us. That’s a lot of taco meat.
3. You’re the King/Queen of the Lock-In.
Or is that one word? Either way, you rock the Lock! Thanks for staying up all night.
4. You listen to our music.
Even if you may not love it, listening to our tunes helps you know about what our world sounds like. That (among many other things) is what makes you beautiful.
5. You love us from Genesis to Revelation and back.
You teach us that following Jesus means reading and understanding God’s word. You expect us to hide God’s words in our hearts and to meditate on them day in and day out.
6. When our Valentine breaks our heart, we know we can call you.
Not that we always do. That would be weird, but we know we CAN. Knowing that we can count on you when our heart is broken is as comforting as a cup of hot chocolate.
7. Great relationship advice.
You teach us that the most important relationship in our life has nothing to do with you and everything to do with following Jesus Christ. Best. Relationship. Advice. Ever.
8. Unconditional love.
Even when we are goofy, you love us.
