Sponsored by the CBF Youth Ministry Network  and produced in partnership with Passport, Inc., Oasis retreat offers CBF youth workers a time of fellowship, discovery and renewal in the beautiful Carolina mountains. We’re excited to announce that author of Contemplative Youth Ministry: Practicing the Presence of Jesus, Mark Yaconelli will be our guest speaker and Eric Mathis, Assistant Professor of Church Music and Worship Leadership at Samford University in Birmingham,will be our worship leader (see below for more information).

Guest Speaker: 

Mark Yaconelli is a speaker, writer and youth worker with over 20 years experience working with young people and the people who serve them (parents, youth workers, pastors) in congregational, camp, and conference settings.  His research and ministry with young people has been ground-breaking in its exploration of spiritual direction, contemplation, and ancient spiritual practices as the basis of formation with young people.  

Mark Yaconelli holds an MA in Christian Spirituality from the Graduate Theological Union and a Graduate Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary. 

 

 

Worship Leader: 

 Eric Mathis is Assistant Professor of Church Music and Worship Leadership at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He has recently been named program director of anima: the Forum for Worship and the Arts. 

An ordained minister, Eric holds a Bachelor of Music from Wheaton College (IL), a Master of Music in Church Music from Baylor University, a Master of Divinity from George W. Truett Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Theology (Christian Worship, Preaching) from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, where he has also served as an adjunct faculty member in Worship, Theology, and the Arts.

 

Schedule:
Come to the mountains to relax, learn, practice spiritual disciplines, and interact with fellow CBF youth workers in a confidential and intimate setting. We will begin with dinner on Tuesday, and conclude by 11 am on Friday. For an additional cost, participants are invited to extend their stay through the weekend, to enjoy time in the North Carolina mountains.

Airports: The closest airport is in Asheville, however, we will offer limited ride sharing from the Charlotte airport as well. We suggest arriving no later than 2 pm on Tuesday in Charlotte, NC and departing no earlier than 4 pm on Friday.
