In a series we’re calling #MissionMondays, we will be highlighting some of the incredible mission agencies we partner with throughout Passport programs.
Our first #MissionMonday spotlight is Cardinal Village and Constance Covington in Danville, Virginia. PASSPORTmissions campers have been serving alongside Miss Constance for four summers.
Cardinal Village works with 75+ children and their families, providing parenting classes, meals for children, summer daycamp activities, community activities and more! All activities are coordinated by Constance Covington, who originally started with Kool-Aid and a children’s book checked out from the library. Constance is well known around Danville for her volunteer work throughout the community, and now serves on the Danville Housing Authority Board. Our work with Constance not only provides her with much needed additional volunteer help, but furthers her work and strengthens her ability to work with the children and families of Cardinal Village.
The children of Cardinal Village look forward to seeing Passport’s campers and making friends from many places all summer long. Campers become role models and encouragers to all the children who are ministered to by Constance and her staff. Our successful partnership has led to new opportunities to work together in replicating her model in other area housing communities. Passport campers play games with children, read for story time, pass out flyers in the apartment area for upcoming activities, mulch community flower beds, tend to community gardens, sweep walkways, and pressure wash the Youth Center walls and deck area.
