Everything should be done in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14 (CEB)

Conversations about faith are important! During the week of Valentine’s, discuss ways to show love to your family and others. Don’t worry about getting it all correct – just have fun talking and thinking together! If you’d like to print this page, click here.

LISTEN

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35 (NIV)

To celebrate Valentine’s Week, this activity will help your family share love with others in a fun, encouraging way!

DISCUSS

Jesus is our best example of how to love others. He came to help us understand the way God loves us. Jesus encouraged his disciples to share love with others as he did.

  • What are some ways that Jesus and his disciples shared love? (caring for people, healing the sick)
  • What are some ways that we can share love with others? (show kindness, include others, share words of encouragement)
  • What are ways that other people share love with you? (playing, helping, taking care of me, spending time together)

DO

During the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, use decorated clothespins to share words of love and encouragement with others. One of the most important ways we can reflect God’s love is by telling others that we love, appreciate, and care for them.

Supplies needed

  • Bag of wooden clothespins
  • Markers or Sharpies

Spend time decorating clothespins with your family at the beginning of the week. Decorate them with bright colors, doodles, Scripture verses, or words of encouragement, such as:

-Have a great day!     -You are loved.     -I believe in you!     -You are special!

Carry some of the clothespins with you throughout the week. As you interact with others, clip a clothespin to their bag or shirt.

If you want to share extra love, give a compliment or special words of encouragement to the person you clip, such as:

-You always make me laugh!     -You are a great dancer.     -I’m thankful for the way you are patient with me.
-My day is always brighter when I see you.     -I’m proud of you.

PRAY

God, thank you for being the best example of what love is and showing us how to love. Help us to show everyone that we love you by the way we share our love with others. Amen.
