MissionBASE: Birmingham is an expedition where your students will join in on the reconciliation and restoration efforts in this historic city. Students will live and serve their new neighbors for six hours each day being the hands and feet of Jesus while meeting unmet needs and relationally investing in the community.
** Unfortunately, due to the location and nature of work, MissionBASE: Birmingham is not wheelchair accessible
What To Expect:
Being the hands & feet of Jesus, mentoring young children.
Working alongside our ministry partners, you and your group will spend your week building relationships with and assisting community members with light construction work and housing projects.
PASSPORT is committed to a sustainable model of mission work. To ensure that your week-long trip is a part of a longterm thoughtful strategy, MissionBASE: Birmingham partners with several local agencies. As a MissionBASE participant, you will learn with and from our local partners and go home knowing that the time you have spent loving the Birmingham was a meaningful part of a long-term ministry.
Simple Missional Living
MissionBASE is about community, not luxury. You can expect:
- Air-conditioned facilities
- Host Church accommodations
- Indoor gym
- Shower/Locker room facilities (with plenty of showers)
Cultural Experiences/Free Night
Whether visiting the Civil Rights Museum or venturing out for some local ice cream, your youth group will embark on guided cultural experiences that will deepen your group’s connection to each other and the community. Additionally, we offer one church group free night so that you can explore Birmingham on your own.
Reflective and Informal Worship
After a day of play and reading, you’ll attend a low—key and reflective time of worship. Bring casual come-as-you-are attire to join our team for group group discussion and stripped-down worship. Have musical youth or chaperones? Bring your guitars and tell our staff, we would love for you to share!
Increased Responsibility for Adults & Students
Our experienced MissionBASE staff serve as facilitators and guides. Adult leaders and students form teams responsible for significant portions of community life and are expected to come ready to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Church group adults will be living among their students and will be responsible for their supervision throughout the week. In order to best serve alongside our partner agencies, we ask that church groups bring adults with construction or management skills.
*Church groups are asked to bring 15-passenger vans or smaller vehicles. The communities in which we are serving have smaller streets and limited parking. This will ensure each site will have ready access to a vehicle in the event of an emergency.
