Hey, what’s going on? My name is John Turner. I am a Hospitality Management major at East Carolina University. I am from Chesapeake, Virginia and grew up going to Churchland Baptist Church. Last summer I worked my first summer as a Bible Study Leader and Missions Choice Leader at PASSPORT Choices.

Why did you choose to work for PASSPORT this summer?
Growing up and being a camper, I knew thought it would be so cool to be one of the staffers. But as I got older, I realized there was a meaning that was much bigger than that. I knew that if I worked as a staffer, I had the chance to change the lives of youth that attended PASSPORT.

I was able to connect with youth on a spiritual level, teach them the word of God, and be able to have a really fun week with all of them! I also really enjoyed making some lifelong friends on my staff.

How did you experience Christ this summer?
Whether it was in conversations they had with individuals, while pulling weeds, or cleaning a chicken, I got to see Christ in their work.

In what ways were you changed after the summer?
This summer, PASSPORT changed my life. I grew up coming to PASSPORT as a camper, but I never thought being a staffer would be that different. My mind was opened up by the sermons we were hearing and the songs meant so much. For the first time in my life, I felt like God was talking to me, and I was listening. PASSPORT changed my life and allowed me to see things in a whole new light.

What would you tell someone who’s considering applying for PASSPORT?
Be ready for one of the most exhausting, but also exciting summers of your life. You will develop lifelong relationships with people while having an absolute blast.
