Passport is committed to a student leadership model and believes in the power of students seeing and interacting with Christian role models who are close to their own age. For 25 years, we’ve seen how encounters with a relatable Christian role model changes lives, provides encouragement, and models an active faith life. Each fall we set out to find a diverse range of college and seminary students from across the country, whose commitment to Jesus Christ authentically leads them to invest in a summer of ministry with young people.
Who are these wonderful staffers and why do they think that you should join them in ministry this summer?
Meet Jackson McCarthy, former camper and Bible Study Leader from the PASSPORTmissions team this past summer. Jackson is studying Church Music at Furman University, and his favorite energizer is “Waka Waka.”
Favorite part of the summer: The unique perspectives of the campers’ own individual faith journey and seeing that grow throughout the week.
To me, PASSPORT is…family. No matter your age, gender, race, or social status—if you know PASSPORT, if you have been a camper, or have been on staff—you are part of our family, and it’s a strong family.
What makes PASSPORT different?
PASSPORT, in my opinion, gives everyone the chance to be themselves. To not be ashamed of where they come from—to embrace the present, look forward to the future, and to love each other, especially in today’s world.
I experienced Jesus this summer…through the amazing people I had the opportunity to work with. Their love of PASSPORT, their passion, their positive and energetic attitudes and most importantly, their own personal faith journey and love of Christ.
What didn’t you know before the summer that would have been helpful to know?
There will be bumps in the road, but there will always be a way over them.
What would you tell someone considering working for PASSPORT?
It is a job you will never regret.
